Intro
Is your life having an impact? Perhaps you feel like it’s not. Perhaps you feel like nothing you do really matters that much. Well, I’m going to show you today that you matter.
Welcome back to the Ministry Corner. Today I want to talk about how the things you do have an impact on this world. I was reading in the scripture during my daily readings and I came across a part in Acts chapter 8 that talks about Philip and the Ethiopian.
And you’re probably aware of this part, this section of scripture, but I just want to read a little bit. It said, now the angel of the Lord said to Philip, go south to the road, the desert road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. So he started out and on his way he met an Ethiopian, Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Queen of the Ethiopians.
Now, I thought it was kind of interesting because he was like led to do this. And ultimately he ended up having a major impact on this eunuch. He ended up showing him, he was reading a chapter of Isaiah the prophet and he ended up telling him what it really means and presenting the Lord to him.
And then he ended up baptizing him. And ultimately, he just, he was just there for that one little thing. And then suddenly he disappeared and he was gone.
Nothing is Too Small
And, you know, I thought about this little thing, this little incident, he just met this random guy. Sure, he was working for the queen, but maybe it didn’t seem like much impact. But I thought, what if he hadn’t done that? What if he had not followed the leading of the Lord there and gone to that place? What if he had not, and he had just left it and thought, eh, it’s not going to make that much impact.
How might things be different today if he hadn’t done that, that one little thing? Perhaps you or I might not even be here serving the Lord if he had not done that one little thing. And now this is a bit of a, a very clear example of the Lord leading you. But I want to tell you today that even the little things you do every day, you don’t know sometimes how much impact they have.
You don’t know down the road how one little thing you did might have an impact on the body of Christ or on just someone’s life in general. You don’t realize how much impact you really have with your life. You know, we go out every day and we do so many different things.
We meet different people. If you go out a lot, you meet people at work, you interact all the time, and you’re having an impact, even if you don’t realize that you are having an impact. Just the fact that you are there, your presence, your spirit, you are having an impact on people around you.
That could be good or it could be a bad impact, but you know, you’re still having an impact. Your life has a meaning. You know, you don’t realize what it is that God could use those things that you do for.
The Lord Can Use You
You don’t realize how the Lord could be using you in subtle ways that you don’t even think about. You know, it’s so easy to think, oh, I want to be used by the Lord in something great. I want to stand up and impact thousands, millions of people.
I want to have an impact for the Lord, if that’s your desire, and that’s a great desire. But you know, until you get there, perhaps you don’t realize some of the things you’ve done could have already had a major impact on this world or the lives of others. Sometimes we think we need to invest into something big.
Sometimes we think we need to really do something big for the Lord. Perhaps you think you need to go to Bible school or study before you can serve the Lord. Or maybe you think you need to become really good at preaching, or you need to do something very specific in order to truly serve the Lord and have an impact.
Not What You Think
Maybe you think you need to rise up and be successful in order for your life to actually have a meaning. You know, the Lord can lead you in everyday things. Just going out, maybe meeting one person, you could end up having an impact on them.
You could end up saying something, even without realizing it. The Lord could lead you to just say something that has an impact. I always find it amazing sometimes when you meet someone, maybe even if you’re ministering to them.
You try and minister to them and you think you know what you need to do. You think you know what kind of help they need. But later on you find out that none of that actually mattered.
But one little thing you said to them had an impact on them. Just one little thing that maybe you said in passing or by accident, without thinking. And they say, you know that really made me think and changed my life.
And you think, well that was obvious to me. Wasn’t it to you? Well it wasn’t. But that thing you said brought a change in their life now.
Keep Going
So don’t give up if you think you are not having an impact or being successful. But realize that everything you do could have an impact. And ultimately everything you do should be done for the Lord anyway, not for people.
Because you see it’s the Lord who will take what you do and increase it. It’s Him who will take it and bring the increase. You know the scripture says in Colossians that, let everything you do be done as unto the Lord and not unto man.
In our translation, the GBM translation, we say let all the business you carry out be done as unto the Lord. You know it’s not necessarily specifically ministry or serving the Lord. It’s in every action you do in your life.
Let it be done as unto the Lord. And you know if you do something, if you go out and help someone, if you do any kind act, do it as unto the Lord. If you go out and do business activity, do it as unto the Lord.
Invest in Him
Always see Him as the one that you are taking action for. You see because then He is the one who will bring the increase in your life. If you feel like this week perhaps was pointless, perhaps this week was a waste of time, don’t feel that way.
Know that God used something. Something you did, God will use. And something you did had an impact in this world and in the lives of others.
I hope this ministry corner was a blessing to you. I just wanted to share this with you quick. And may the next week be a week of much blessing.
I’ll see you in the next one.
Thank you John! That encourages me. 😃
