Feed On The Word

Abe – Feed On The Word

When did you last feed on the word of God?

Every believer should know how to read the bible. But how often do you find yourself struggling to read the word?

There are so many daily plans out there that try to help you read the whole Bible in a certain time. We have our own plan where you read 10 chapters a day.

But somehow I always find that I don’t get around to reading those chapters.

So recently I felt the Lord telling me to get back into His word and to build my faith, hope and love again.

I made an effort to get into the word afresh and read it daily. Because it seemed like come the end of the day I would find that I never took time to read the word.

Reading the word is more important than other things I do. Yet I take time to browse the internet, to watch a movie, or to read other books. But time for the word, does not happen as often.

I cannot believe that I did not do this sooner.

As I took the time more and more to read every day, I found a desire starting to build inside again. I would look forward to my next Bible reading.

And it seemed like I felt a new energy inside of me. There was a new hope for the future. I started to see some of the promises that God has given, and believe them again.

I have always loved to read the word. Yet it seems that I just lost that so quickly as the pressures of life came and I just concentrated on work or other things I wanted to do.

But God’s word is there waiting. And it does not change. All that you need to do is start to tap into it again.

How do you come to the place where you cannot wait to read the Bible? Where you desire it as Milk and you cannot live without it.

Well there are 2 steps that you can take to get started.

First – Ask the Lord to give you that desire
Second – Read the Word

The Lord has given you a powerful tool that can transform and change you. But sometimes you take it for granted. You do not realise the power that there is in the word.

Why Is There No Desire?

Reading the word sometimes seems like a chore, yet we are so quick to put other things into our mind.

And all the things you read, watch or listen to, they sink down deep into your spirit.

And they start to affect you deep inside, even without you being aware of it. The pictures you see and the words you read have a deep impact on you.

Perhaps you are struggling in a certain area of your life. Maybe you feel overwhelmed at work. Or you often feel depressed and cannot seem to overcome these feelings.

It could be that you are seeing bad pictures in your mind.

Maybe you have lost hope, and you just do not see the Lord working in your life anymore. You do not believe His promises anymore, because you do not see them.

Well He wrote them all down for you. And He said that He will never change. He has not let go of those promises, He will still fulfil them.

But maybe you need to be reminded of those promises. You need to put some new pictures into your spirit, instead of the pictures you are seeing right now.

Take The Step

So the first step is to keep putting the word in. Keep reading it and let it sink down deep into your spirit. As you do this you may feel nothing inside.

You will not even notice a difference. You may even start to think that is is pointless.

But keep going and the Word will begin to stir inside your spirit. It will start to bring change without you being aware of it.

It starts to stir up all of the other junk that you have put inside. All the pictures, books, movies and tv you have seen. All the words that people have spoken to you, good or bad, All the experiences of life, everything starts to come out.

For me personally I find myself dreaming really crazy dreams. And I am the kind of person who never remembers my dreams.

But suddenly I get the strangest dream where all sorts of things are happening.

This is because a stirring is taking place inside of you. And the more you read the word, the more you will clear all of that junk out. The old junk starts to come out of your spirit and get cleared out.

And suddenly you will find that you can see clearly. You will start to get revelation from the Lord in a new way you never did before. Those emotions that were always getting you down, suddenly you can handle them again.

The pressure that overwhelmed you before, suddenly you can handle it.

All of this, simply because you fed something good into your spirit, instead of junk food.

That is the power that reading the word has in you.

One of my favourite scriptures in the bible is Hebrews 4:14

For the word of God [is] living, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing right up to the division between soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (GBMV)

It is very easy to forget the power that there is in the word. But there is power to bring change not only in your life, but the lives of others.

Already Reading It

Maybe you are one of those people who already does your bible reading all the time without fail. In which case that is great.

But maybe you need something new. There is more that the Lord has for you. Ask Him to give you a new desire and show you something new in His word..

Because there is always something new that the Lord has for you.

But It Is Boring

People often say, “But the bible is boring, I already know all the stories”

Do you really?

People often misquote bible stories, because they think they know the whole story. They make bible movies all the time that have the completely wrong story.

I never understand why it is so hard, just read the bible and you will see the right story.

No matter how much you read the word, there will always be something that you did not see. Because the Bible is more than just stories, it has powerful principles that you can apply in your life.

There is always something in the word that the Lord can show you. Even in the chapters that you know already.

God Wants to Set You Free

No matter what struggle you are facing right now, there is always time to read the word. It is freely available, and if you have nothing else to do, just read the word.

Read the word and let it sink into your spirit. Even if you can only find time for 1 chapter. And even if you do not feel like doing it.

Because just taking the time to read the word will accomplish more than anything else that you can do.

Speaking The Word

If you want to experience even more power from the word, then you need to do more than just read it.

Start to confess it out loud. Take the promises that stand out to you and speak them out loud.

“By His stripes I am healed (Isaiah 53:5)”

“The Lord will provide all my needs (Philippians 4:19)”

I want to inspire you now to get a fresh passion and desire for the word of God. Because it is always new and will always refresh you.

The Lord wants to give you a desire. But it will first require you to take that step and get into His word.

And the more you do it, the more you will see that desire rise in you. The more you read it the more you will not be able to live without it.

If you do not know where you start, you can check out our daily readings on our online Bible here (https://www.gbm-academy.com/gbm-bible/)

I pray that you experience the power of the word, and that you rise up to live the life that God has for you.

An inspiring article, John – love it! Definitely pulls you into wanting to get into the Word right away to find some of these hidden gems that are to be found in it. I don’t like milk (so don’t desire milk) but perhaps we can replace that with chocolate? Works for me (smile)

Thanks Nadine, glad you were blessed by it. I think Chocolate is a great replacement example 🙂
